Tradition and festivities near Berwang

Every year in September and October, one of Tyrol’s most beloved traditions takes place: the Almabtrieb. The cattle that have spent the summer on the mountain pastures return to the valleys and are welcomed with a festive celebration. The cows are decorated with colourful flowers, wreaths and large bells, while the farmers and their families walk alongside them in traditional costumes.

The Almabtrieb is not only a practical event, but above all a cultural highlight full of music, dance and culinary delights. From cheese and bacon to sweet doughnuts, everything is fresh from the region. It is a centuries-old tradition that celebrates the bond between people, animals and nature.
